Features of Al-Falah Curriculum
Accredited Curriculum
* Al-Falah Islamic School is accredited by the Ministry of Education. It follows the rules, guidelines and curriculum prescribed
by the Ontario Ministry of Education. For more information about the Ontario Curriculum please visit www.edu.gov.on.ca.
* The curriculum is enriched through classes in arts, computers, physical education, and Quran/Arabic.
Engaging Environment
* Our school, ranging from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight, is a nurturing, welcoming environment where children
actively engage in learning.
* Our students are excited and challenged by a multidisciplinary approach to learning that makes holistic connections
between subject areas. Teachers work together to develop themes across the subject areas, making learning more meaningful and authentic for their students.
Inquiry Approach
* Every grade integrates the Inquiry Approach into their curriculum units. This approach enables students to achieve a remarkable depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding.
Leadership Development
* Leadership skills are enhanced at every grade level. From Junior Kindergarten to Grade Six, students are given special responsibilities in the classroom and around the school. Community Service is fostered through events and initiatives that teach students to consider others who are less fortunate than themselves.
Co-Curricular Activities
* There are numerous co-curricular activities for students to pursue their individual interests. Athletic activities in the school emphasize participation and skill development, and provide opportunities for students to experience healthy competition and inter-school play.
Senior Academic Program
* Grade 7 and 8 represents an exciting time of transition and development. Grade 7 and 8 students gain independence
and see their responsibilities increase in preparation for the senior grades.
* The senior academic program increases the student’s learning capacity and abstract thinking abilities.
Independent studies, personalized assignments, and competitions such as the BASEF Science Fair,
Math Gauss Contest, the Grade 7 and 8 Math Olympics, CANWEST Spelling Bee, and the Geo-Challenge,
provide opportunities for students to take academic risks and attain goals.
* Co-curricular activities are tailored to meet the needs of students at this developmental stage,
with emphasis on voluntary participation. Sports programs emphasize social skills and positive attitudes,
while Arts programs, such as drama and fine arts, build self-confidence and develop creativity.
* Senior students are given leadership opportunities to help co-ordinate events, school assemblies and school clubs such
as the school Newsletter and Yearbook, allowing them to apply their creative, interpersonal and organization skills.
